How Your Fans Can Take Part

Daily Tip #11 - Monday, October 19

On November 1, your family, friends, and fans will want to watch you run, follow your progress from home, or even run at the same time as you! With a little planning, your supporters can have front-row access to see your race through the five boroughs. Check out our Spectator Guide to give them the best tips to do so.

In addition, pass along this advice:

TV coverage: No matter where they are, your friends and family can tune in. Locally, WNBC 4 New York will cover the race live from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Nationally, a two-hour highlight show will follow on NBC Sports. Catch all of the action on your computer at New York Nonstop, www.nbcnewyork.com, and check the broadcast schedule for live streaming coverage and all other viewing details.

Athlete Alert: This online service allows runners to sign up on our website so that family and friends will receive e-mail updates about their race at every split. Sign-up begins October 26.

Getting around the course: With many streets and avenues closed to traffic, the subway is the best way to travel. Plan your trip using the MTA website, which will suggest the best ways to get to your destination. The site also frequently updates its weekend service advisories, so click here to avoid any surprises.

Cheering zones: Tell your friends and family to cheer in good company at one of the cheering zones along the course. Hosted by race sponsors including ING, Clear Channel, Food Emporium, the Robin Hood Foundation, and Emerald Nuts, the cheering zones are where your supporters can enhance their experience.

Virtual Marathon: Just have them register to run our two new Virtual Running Events and they will share the magic of race week with you. Plus, they'll be entered in a sweepstakes to win a VIP trip to next year's race and much more.
