Parade of Nations
Friday, November 4, 2011
New York City is where the world comes to run, and never more so than for the ING New York City Marathon, which draws nearly half of its field of 47,000 from outside the United States. Some 125 countries are represented this year, and dozens of them were represented at Friday's first-ever Parade of Nations, an evening of pageantry and celebration of the global diversity of running and the marathon. The internationally acclaimed performance group AntiGravity provided opening entertainment, Greece—the birthplace of the marathon—led the parade, and international wheelchair and running stars followed the flag bearers and delegates.
